Celebrating the Birthday Early

One of the biggest things we make sure happens in our house is giving the birthday child a celebratory dinner. We used to just do a birthday dinner at home, but since we have a child with food intolerances ... things get a little tricky. We decided to take Peanut out for her birthday meal to one place she loves to go but we rarely are able to.

BD's Mongolian BBQ has two locations in the KC Metro, but we have only been to the one in Overland Park. It is across the street from Oak Park Mall, for those who are local and want to go after reading this post! Because they are not cheap, we sign up for the Club Mongo, where we get to have 7 family members in the club. We are notified about specials they have going on and then we get a birthday coupon for a BoGo meal!

I decided that since the potential weather postponed her party until March, I would take her out to eat. We got all glammed up and I helped walk her through the paces. If you have never been to BD's, it is very simple. You are given 1 bowl that you will take to the bar and select a noodle base, then meat, then veggies ... finally you select a sauce and any spices you want.

Then you are guided to a place to stand and they cook your food for you!

Then, when your food is done, they will slide it into a different bowl that you take back to your table and devour. The waitress (or waiters) will bring tortillas (or lettuce wraps) and rice. How you eat your meal is completely up to you. You can see in the above picture that they even offer chop sticks.

We ended up getting two bowls, although Peanut took 1/2 of her second bowl home. I NEVER count calories when I go to BD's because I KNOW that it is way too much. It's kinda like Chipotle for me ... totally a cheat day that I never regret because it is enjoyable and rarely happens.

It was a great meal and a great day out. We are still looking forward to her actual party ... but that will be for another post! <3
