The twinkle in the eye makes it all worth it

This week has been a very rough one. We knew it was going to be rocky with Peanut in school, Bullfrog at Cub Scouts Day Camp, and then the toddler girls at home ... all day ... with nothing but rain in the forecast. I had NO idea how crazy this week really was going to get.

It started out decent, but quickly turned sour Wednesday morning. For those who do not know, we have a toddler that has sensory issues. I honestly don't exactly know what makes her tick sometimes, but I know the color that she likes ... and when she doesn't get that color, things are not okay. This is extremely important when her world is already screwed up. It's like her one control. Well, McDonald's didn't give us a blue cup and she just couldn't contain it anymore. Y'all, she broke my heart with her cries. I got out in the RAIN (pouring rain) to stand and squeeze her better in her car seat. We made it home and put the water into her blue cup and life was good again.

Well ... for a few hours. Then it REALLY began to storm and my husband contacted me to let me know that Bullfrog had gotten injured at camp. He decided to run downstairs ... that were metal ... in the rain ...

Thankfully, it ended up only being a sprain. He was put on 24 hour mandatory rest where he was supposed to be off his foot as much as possible. He was given permission to start rotate his ankle and stretch it out by Thursday evening. It was evident by Thursday night that he was going stir crazy and he didn't want dad going to camp without him the next day.

The day got rockier when I went to go pick my husband up from work. I left at 5:30pm because I knew there was an exit that would be closed and it should take me about 20 minutes to pick him up instead of the normal 10. HOWEVER, a taxi broke down right at the choke point into downtown and it ended up taking me 30 minutes to get downtown.

But wait ... Wednesday isn't over yet. Peanut came upstairs and said the words that strike fear in the heart of every parent.
"Mom, how do you know if you have lice?"

Thankfully, no lice ... BUT I had the heebee jeebies forthe remainder of the day.

Thursday really didn't improve either. We woke to overcast skies and my husband had me take him in to work. I was looking forward to sleeping in, but I was awake anyway. After getting him to work and coming home, my nephew came over. Upon entering the front door, he said one sentence that made me cringe ... again.

"Grandpa says he thinks your left rear tire is a little low."

I went out to look at it and sure enough, it was a little low. I went back in to tell hubby and then I went out about 5 minutes later to check the pressure to see where we were at. This is what I was greeted with:

Yup ... completely flat. Turns out ... picked up a nail. Have I mentioned that I am over the construction that is going on right near my house? *sigh* I am SO tired of getting tires fixed.

Even with EVERYTHING that went wrong this week ... and it was a lot ... I was greeted with smiles on Friday and today was pure bliss. It is THIS that makes it all worth it!

So ... what do you do to recover from a very bad week?

I'll leave you with one last photo ... a picture I took of Kansas City's skyline tonight at a red light.

  7. It's always worth it, Heather. :)

I'm so glad the lice scare was only a scare! We had them once, 26 years ago, and I still find myself panicking over a white speck in my hair! We had 4 kids at the time. Head lice had been found among kids in the elementary school. Our kids played with some of the school kids, but we never got the memo because we were homeschooling. It's an experience I hope never to repeat!
